The Paddle Australia Privacy Policy – Club Opt-In

In Australia, all organisations need to abide by the Privacy Act 1988.   This includes your Club in relation to how you collect, store and use personal information from individuals.  Breaches can result in regulatory action and penalties.

The Paddle Australia Privacy Policy has just been rewritten to cover “affiliated Paddling Clubs that have actively adopted this policy”.  This has been done to save the need for Clubs to write and maintain their own Privacy Policy but, as the words suggest, you will need to proactively adopt the policy to demonstrate that your Club understands and agrees to abide by the policy.

What does this mean for your Club?

Unless your Club has its own up to date and compliant Privacy Policy, it is strongly recommended that you actively adopt the Paddle Australia Privacy Policy.

This will be managed via GoMembership.  An Authorised Club Representative (who will need Club Administrator access in GoMembership) will need to follow the steps on Page 3 of this guide to download the Privacy Policy from the PA website, save and upload it into GoMembership to demonstrate the Club’s adoption of the policy.

If you require any further information or assistance please email us on membership@paddle.org.au

The Paddle On Foundation

As you are no doubt aware, the Paddle On Foundation was established in May this year in order to offer support to both prospective and existing members who have been adversely impacted by COVID-19 and therefore might otherwise not be able to join a Club or renew Club membership.

It has been so heartening to witness the generosity of the paddling community, with over 15% of members donating to the Paddle On Foundation to support their fellow paddlers.  And it has been fantastic that the Foundation has supported over 50 paddlers who have been adversely impacted by COVID-19.

There is ongoing scope for the Paddle On Foundation to support more paddlers between now and 31 December.  If you are aware of any members who are yet to join or renew because they are doing it a bit tough with the impact of COVID-19, please feel free to encourage them to apply to the Paddle On Foundation for assistance with their membership fees.  Please provide them with the link to apply and let them know that they simply need to provide a brief outline of how they’ve been adversely impacted by COVID-19.

Club Insurances

As part of affiliation with your State Paddle Association and Paddle Australia, your Club comes under the umbrella of the Paddle Australia National Insurance Program.  This means that your Club has exactly the same level of protection as Paddle Australia and your State Paddle Association when it comes to managing your Club’s operations.

For further information on the National Insurance Program, in conjunction with our insurance brokers, V Insurance, we have created a website with all of the details, including full copies of all relevant policies. We have also produced a handy summary document for Clubs, where you can find answers to the most commonly asked questions at a glance.  For example, did you know that Club volunteers are covered for any personal injury sustained during an event under the same policy as the paddlers are?

2020/21 Certificates of Currency (Confirmation of Insurance Certificates) are now housed in GoMembership and are accessible by Club members who have Club Administration access.  Please follow the steps in this user guide to access your Certificate of Currency as / when required.

Paddle Australia suggests that Club Presidents and Admins take the time to familiarise themselves with the key points of the National Insurance Program.  We are available to assist with any questions you may have at info@paddle.org.au.

Optional Club Property, Paddle Craft and Equipment Insurance

It is important to note that the property of your Club is not covered under the National Insurance Program.  If your Club does own any property, including paddle craft, paddle and/or office equipment, you can request a quotation from V Insurance.  There are already several Clubs taking advantage of this optional insurance via Paddle Australia as they have found it to be very price competitive.

To request a quotation for this insurance, please contact V-Insurance Group on (02) 8599 8660 or 1300 945 547 or via email to sports@vinsurancegroup.com

Updated Event Waiver

The Paddle Australia Event Waiver has been updated to reflect that insurance is also in place for non-members for events “that PA determines do not require a PA/State Non-Member Single Event Fee” as it was identified that this scenario wasn’t catered for in the previous version.

The updated Paddle Australia Event Waiver will be uploaded into GoMembership today and as such, the Terms and Conditions will need to be re-accepted by everyone the next time they log in to GoMembership.

It is recommended that your Club commence using this version of the Paddle Australia Event Waiver for all future events.

Thank you for taking the time to read the above information.  Please contact us on 02 9763 0670 or membership@paddle.org.au
